Why invest in water and sanitation in the developing world? Did you know the equivalent of 10 jumbo jets, full of children under the age of five, crashed today1? Over 4,000 children die each day from unsafe water and poor sanitation. The water and sanitation crisis isn’t sexy, but it is the most fundamental crisis affecting people living in developing countries. It is a crisis that reaches across sectors. It is a crisis to which there are cost-effective solutions, and these solutions are life altering. WaterCan’s Case for Support provides information on the global water and sanitation crisis and how the provision of these basic services is critical to supporting poverty alleviation efforts in developing countries. The document concludes with suggestions of how the Canadian government can support progress in this area. This document is supported by a series of educational posters that visually depict the points made in the case for support. You can view these posters by scrolling through the image gallery below. The case for support and educational posters are available in English and French and can be downloaded, printed and disseminated for use in educational and awareness campaigns, fundraising events and for use in the classroom. We would very much appreciate hearing how you used these materials – please send an email to info@watercan.com. That's 4384 deaths per day. Given an average jumbo jet capacity of 450, this is equivalent to 10 jumbo jets full of children under the age of five, crashing each day.
