Lundin for Africa Foundation

WaterCan has partnered with the Lundin for Africa Foundation to provide clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education to 4,500 students and teachers in Eastern Africa. Lundin for Africa is a Canadian foundation whose goal is to improve the lives of Africans in need through community development initiatives. A generous donation from Lundin for Africa has provided the lion’s share of funding for six Clean Water for Schools projects in the Wakiso District of Uganda and Werebabo District of Ethiopia.

Through Clean Water for Schools projects, WaterCan helps to reduce the incidence of water and sanitation related diseases among students and teachers. It also ensures that children and are no longer forced to walk long distances to collect water for their schools. Project schools are provided with an appropriate water source such as a rainwater catchment tank or protected spring. Basic sanitation facilities and hygiene education are also vital to improving health – a proven step toward improving educational achievement. With better health and education, these children are given the tools to escape poverty and build better lives.

A signing ceremony in Werebabo District, Ethiopia, marked the beginning of 3 of the 6 Clean Water for Schools projects sponsored by the Lundin for Africa Foundation.
