How We Work

Invested in Partners

WaterCan believes that investing in local human resources lies at the very heart of progressive and sustainable development.

Given WaterCan’s emphasis on building partnerships with indigenous NGOs, we place great importance on providing our partners with capacity building opportunities so as to strengthen their ability to implement high quality integrated water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion projects.

To this end, WaterCan provides support (managerial, technical and financial) for organizational capacity development of its indigenous partner organizations. This is done through the dissemination of best practice research, facilitation of regional capacity building training workshops, on-going support from country-level advisors and Canadian-based programming staff, as well as subsidized participation in key sectoral conferences. These investments, considered to be an integral part of WaterCan’s work, strengthen our local partner’s organizational effectiveness and efficiency in project delivery. The funds committed to capacity building are expected to vary from partner to partner and country to country, according to need.
