WaterCan invited to Water and Sanitation panel at CIDA's
International Cooperation Days (November 1 to 3, 2004)

International Cooperation Days (ICD), held this year in Ottawa, was hosted by the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of International Cooperation. ICD provides an important international forum organized by CIDA for all its partners. More than a thousand representatives from non-governmental, voluntary, public and private sectors met with international development experts from around the world. This year's ICD focused on how the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are to be achieved. Of particular interest to WaterCan was the workshop entitled “Water for the Poorest – MDGs and sustainable development,” moderated by Aly Shady (Water & Irrigation Specialist at CIDA)

Invited panel members included Dr. Roberto Lenton (Water and Sanitation Millennium Task Force Co-Coordinator - United Nations), Dr. Saima El-Guindy (Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation), and George Yap (Program Director, WaterCan). Part one of the workshop included panel presentations on the progress of implementing the MDGs from different perspective: the United Nations, global water experts, and NGOs working at the grassroots. Part two of the workshop provided the opportunity for extended dialogue on the issues raised by panel presentations.
