WaterCan
Welcomes New Board Members
On
June 26, 2003, at WaterCan's 15th Annual General Meeting, the Board
of Directors welcomed four new members. This meeting also saw the departure
of the following four Board members: Rhoda Boyd (since 1997), Florence
Coleridge (since 2001), Brian Grover (since 1999) and Andy Robinson
P.Eng. (since 1997).WaterCan is thankful for the commitment shown by
these volunteers while serving as Board members, and looks forward
to a continuing relationship.
The following is a list of new Board members, including short background notes
on each person:
Nicole Bosley has
worked in the international development sector for over 10 years. She
was the Executive Director of WaterCan for seven years before moving
to Africa, where for two years, she developed and managed projects,
raised money, organized events and travelled extensively. She now lives
in Montréal where she is still involved in international development
sitting on the Board of organizations whose mission she supports.
Jim Cocks is
a financial executive with 20 years of experience in finance, administration,
business development and the technology investment community. Through
involvement at the executive level in both public and private Canadian
corporations, he has worked extensively in domestic operating issues
with related international experience. Mr. Cocks currently is an independent
consultant providing corporate finance, monitoring and audit services
to various Ottawa-based technology clients and government organizations.
Mr. Cocks is a Chartered Accountant.
Phillip
Sweetnam P.Eng. is Secretary-Treasurer of Relocatable Homes
Ltd., his family's housing development business. Over the past 30
years, Relocatable Homes has subdivided land to sell lots to small
builders who have built over 250 modular homes in the Stittsville
area. Mr. Sweetnam is also a Board member of 4 museums. He has been
successful in assisting these and other community groups with fundraising.
Dr. Awegechew
Teshome is a Research Scientist and holds a Ph.D. in Biology
and Agro-ecology from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Teshome is currently
employed as USC Canada's Scientific Advisor for the Seeds of Survival
Program. Prior to joining USC, Dr. Teshome held positions with a
number of high-profile research organizations, most notably the International
Plant Genetic Research Institute (IPGRI) based in Rome, and the International
Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC) in Ottawa.
WaterCan is pleased to welcome these new Board members, and looks forward to
many years of success with this new team.
