Gifts of Water Christmas Miracle

The 2nd Annual Gifts of Water Christmas campaign goal was reached in record time as Canadians chose to support clean water projects in lieu of gifts again this year! A total of $30,620 were raised, far exceeding the $24,049 goal set in support of the Clean Water for Wakiso District Project. More than 3,410 children, women and men will benefit from this project. Angela Hewitt Plays in Support of WaterCan's Clean Water Projects

Canadian treasure and internationally acclaimed pianist Angela Hewitt played a concert to benefit WaterCan at the University of Saskatchewan’s Convocation Hall, the day after receiving an honourary doctorate at the University.

University President Peter MacKinnon introduced the evening and both Gary Pluim, Executive Director of WaterCan, and Dr. Howard Wheater, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Water Security, spoke on the global importance of water and the work of WaterCan.

200 people attended the concert and were treated to a program of absolutely beautiful music by Bach, Chopin and Brahms. A reception followed, attended by Ms. Hewitt and all guests, and featuring WaterCan’s Water for Life Photo Exhibit.  The evening raised $9,000.00 for WaterCan’s work with water and sanitation, and took WaterCan’s message into Saskatchewan...

Donate a Portion of Your Aeroplan Miles to WaterCan Today

WaterCan has been selected to participate in Aeroplan’s Charitable Pooling Program! For the month of November, 2010 WaterCan will be accepting donated miles from Aeroplan members. These donated miles will be used to help eliminate some of our overhead costs and therefore allocate more funding towards our water and sanitation projects in eastern Africa.

Donations will be accepted starting November 1st until November 30th. Complete a pledge form to donate today!

WaterCan Launches Phase III of Clean Water for Schools Program

WaterCan has officially launched Phase III of its successful Clean Water for Schools program in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. WaterCan will work in these four countries in partnership with 13 African partner organizations to support the provision of clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene education. By 2012 over 37,000 students and teachers will be living better, healthier lives through access to new school facilities such as rain water harvesting tanks, sanitary latrine blocks and health promotion materials. WaterCan Wins Friends of Naturalizer 2010 Contest

WaterCan is pleased to announce that we have won the Friends of Naturalizer 2010 Program contest. More than 67,000 votes were cast for WaterCan over a four-day period. Naturalizer has been a wonderful partner and we look forward to using thier generous $20,000 donation towards transforming lives through access to clean, safe drinking water and basic sanitation. WaterCan has been selected as a finalist in the Friends of Naturalizer 2010 Program, which will donate $1 for every pair of shoes and bag sold between Thursday, September 30th and Sunday, October 3rd. With three finalists selected, and only one receiving the $20,000 donation, Naturalizer is leaving the selection of the winner up to the public….up to you!

Trudeau Exhibition Raises Money for WaterCan

Trudeau: Images of Canada's Passionate Statesman on display at the IX Gallery in Toronto from September 23rd to October 16th marks the ten year anniversary of his passing and features over 40 historic images from the archives of the Canadian Press. 10% of the exhibit proceeds will be donated to WaterCan. Images retain for $600 to $850. Learn More

Turning Canoe Paddle Art Work into Clean Water for Africa

The Artists in their Environment studio tour will be transforming canoe paddles into one-of-a-kind works of art with 100% of sales proceeds being donated to WaterCan. The "Freshwater Paddles" exhibit will become a stop along the Chelsea-Wakefield studio tour which sees many hundreds of visitors every year. A media preview of the exhibit will take place on October 1st attended by all of the artists, and WaterCan’s Leslie Moreland and Gary Pluim.

The tour takes place during the first two weekends of October(2nd-3rd and 9th-11th) from 10am-5pm. Learn M ore

Two short months after announcing the 2010-2011 School by School Fundraising Challenge, students across Canada and the United States have already reached and exceeded the $20,644 goal! Aveda Canada Earth Month Campaign meets goal to support clean water for Africa

The Collega International Aveda network in Canada celebrated Earth Day, April 22, this year with their fourth annual Walk for Water with a total of 1,800 registered walkers participating in events hosted in 15 Canadian cities raising awareness, and much needed funds. The effort raised $325,000 for Aveda’s exclusive Canadian Earth Month partner, WaterCan, bringing Aveda’s contribution to the charity to $881,256 since 2008. Learn More!

16th Annual Embassy Dinner a Great Success

With the generous support of presenting sponsor Golder Associates, Ottawa’s diplomatic community, corporate sponsors (Robinson Consultants, Grey Horse Corporation), media sponsors (Embassy Magazine, Roger’s Television, The Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Business Journal and Capital Style Magazine), dozens of live and silent auction donors and nearly one hundred volunteers, we’re pleased to announce that this year’s dinner raised over $138,805 dollars in support of clean water projects throughout eastern Africa. WaterCan participates in call to action

WaterCan, in partnership with UNICEF, the World Health Organization, WaterAid and others join together to Raise Clean Hands for WASH in Schools. This action calls on decision-makers to increase investments, and on concerned stakeholders to plan and act in cooperation. Every child deserves to attend a school that offers safe water, healthful sanitation and hygiene education. WaterCan unveils Water for Life: An African Photo Exhibit

The Honourable Peter Milliken, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons and Margaret Trudeau, Honorary President of WaterCan hosted a reception on Parliament Hill on March 23 to mark the official launch of Water for Life: An African Photo Exhibit featuring the work of internationally renowned photographer Peter Bregg. Water: In Focus contest winners announced

Congratulations to Natalie Wu of Toronto who has won in our senior category and Damon Fauvel of Regina who is taking the prize for the junior age group.  We received dozens of inspirational entries and thank each and every participant for taking the time to think creatively and critically about "water".   A special thanks also to the hundreds of individuals who voted for their favorite entries online, thereby showing great support for our youth participants.

Gifts of Water reaches fundraising goal

The generous and heartfelt response to WaterCan's inaugural Gifts of Water campaign this past Holiday Season was nothing short of overwhelming! Thanks to your support, we have now raised 100% of funds ($13,823) required for the Clean Water for Iraara Primary School Project. This project benefits 635 boys and girls in the rural Kyenjojo District of Uganda. Learn More

Ottawa's Go Green Expo Gives to WaterCan in Celebration of World Water Day

In lieu of an admission fee, attendees of Ottawa's Go Green Expo, taking place March 21-22nd at Landsdowne Park in Ottawa, will be encouraged to make a voluntary donation. Event organizers are donating all proceeds to WaterCan in celebration of World Water Day. Gary H.J. Pluim, WaterCan's Executive Director is a special guest speaker at this exciting 2 day event aiming to encourage greener lifestyles. Gary will be speaking on the "Go Green Stage" at 12:34pm on Sunday, March 22nd. Find out more.
