
Trudeau: Images of Canada's Passionate Statesman on display at the IX Gallery in Toronto from September 23rd to October 16th marks the ten year anniversary of his passing and features over 40 historic images from the archives of the Canadian Press. 10% of the exhibit proceeds will be donated to WaterCan. The Artists in their Environment studio tour will be transforming canoe paddles into one-of-a-kind works of art with 100% of sales proceeds being donated to WaterCan. The "Freshwater Paddles" exhibit will become a stop along the Chelsea-Wakefield studio tour which sees many hundreds of visitors every year. A media preview of the exhibit will take place on October 1st attended by all of the artists, and WaterCan’s Leslie Moreland and Gary Pluim.

The Collega International Aveda network in Canada celebrated Earth Day, April 22, this year with their fourth annual Walk for Water with a total of 1,800 registered walkers participating in events hosted in 15 Canadian cities raising awareness, and much needed funds. The effort raised $325,000 for Aveda’s exclusive Canadian Earth Month partner, WaterCan, bringing Aveda’s contribution to the charity to $881,256 since 2008. Find out more!

The Honourable Peter Milliken, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons and Margaret Trudeau, Honourary President of WaterCan hosted a reception on Parliament Hill on March 23 to mark the official launch of Water for Life: An African Photo Exhibit featuring the work of internationally renowned photographer Peter Bregg. Collega for Aveda unveiled their Earth Month fundraising total before a packed audience at WaterCan's Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony held at City Hall in Ottawa on June 16th. Raffaela Caruso, Sr. Vice-President of Finance and Operations of the Collega group of companies gave a rousing presentation about the 2009 Earth Month Campaign. More than 1,998 walkers registered to participate in 17 walks in major cities across Canada in an effort to raise funds and awareness about the global water crisis.

On a lovely sunny day in May, art lovers and WaterCan supporters stayed inside to enjoy the great outdoors, gathering at the Ottawa restaurant, Prime 360, for a show of Renfrew painter Hugh Malcolm’s recent work.
The artist shared the proceeds from the show with two of his favourite charities, the Parkinson Society of Ottawa and WaterCan –thanks to brisk sales –raising over $1,000 for each organization. Our thanks go out to Mr. Malcolm, the coordinator and WaterCan volunteer, Carol Bell Smith and the “nature” lovers who supported this wonderful event.
WaterCan, is pleased to announce its renewed and expanded partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The three year program, valued at 2.11 million dollars, will support community-based integrated water supply, sanitation and hygiene education programming to benefit more than 40,000 people living in rural and urban areas of Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. World Water Day drew a crowd of well over 100 people to Parliament Hill as staff and supporters of WaterCan and other SWAN member organization displayed over 40 signed toilet seats from across Canada. Speeches made by George Yap (WaterCan), Robert Fox (Oxfam), Kate White (UNAC) and Chris Dendys (Results) drew attention to the dire situation, while Paul Dewar, NDP MP (Ottawa Centre) and Foreign Affairs Critic accepted a signed seat promising to deliver it to Prime Minister Harper.
