1. Mail the completed Photo Contest Entry Form to:

And

2. Send an e-mail to contest@watercan.com that includes:
• Your photo (no larger than 2MB. It can be full colour or black and white)
• A short inspiration statement about your photo (no more than 200 words)
• The category you belong in (i.e. Junior: ages 12-15 or Senior: ages 16-18)
• Your name, full mailing address & phone number*
• A nickname/username (max. 15 characters)**


General Guidelines

• This contest is open to all Canadian youth between the ages of 12 and 18
• There are two categories: Junior (ages 12 -15) and Senior (ages 16-18)
• All content (photos and written compositions) must be original works
• You may submit more than one photo contest entry
• Teachers and parents are allowed to give input but production must be done by applicants


Official Contest Rules

By entering this contest, you agree to comply with these contest rules. The contest is void where prohibited by law.

• You must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and a legal resident of Canada to enter.
•To enter: Applicants must complete the Photo Contest Entry Form including guardian's signature (if under age 18) and send by mail to WaterCan c/o Photo Contest, 321 Chapel Street, Ottawa, ON, K1N 7Z2. Contest Entry Forms must be recieved before the contest deadline for entries to be considered.
• To enter: Contest entries must be submitted by email to contest@watercan.com before the deadline to be considered. Photos must be no larger than 2 MB. Writing compositions must be no longer than 200 words.
•If factual evidence is used in the writen composition applicants must provide their sources either in credits or as an attachment.
• Photos and written compositions must not contain copyrighted material.
• Contestants and any persons featured in the contest entry agree that WaterCan may use their photo, publish their name(s) and may use both in future advertising campaigns and/or marketing materials. Contestants relinquish all publishing rights.
• WaterCan is not responsible for any lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected or illegal submission. No entries will be returned.
• WaterCan may disqualify any entry based on content and/or production.
• All costs associated with making and submitting a photojournalism entry are the contestant’s responsibility. WaterCan will not reimburse or be responsible for any residuals or costs incurred in the making or submission of an entry.
• The contest officially commences on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 12:01 am (EST). All entries (including Photo Contest Entry Form) must be received by WaterCan by Monday, February 15, 2010 by 11:59 pm (EST).
• WaterCan staff will choose the top 16 finalists (8 in each category) and post these online for public voting.
• Public voting will take place online from March 1, 2010 to March 10, 2010.
• The winner will be announced on Monday, March 22, 2010 (World Water Day)
• If the photo contains people whose faces can be recognized they must sign the "Permission to Publish" line on the Entry Form. If the person featured in the photo is under the age of 18 a Guardian must sign of their behalf.
•Employees and Board Members of WaterCan and their families may not enter the contest.

*Please note that your personal information shall be collected and used by WaterCan only to the extent necessary for the purposes of the contest and any related public service activities. Your personal details will not be shared with any third party.

**To protect your privacy, your nickname will appear next to your photo is we post it online, along with your city/town and province/territory. For example: watergirl333, Calgary, AB
