Adventurous New Glasgow Native Joins CTV's Ben Mulroney on
KILIMANJARO CLIMB FOR LIFE
Raising Awareness about Global Water Crisis.
Charity BBQ to be hosted in partnership with Sobeys in support of Devin Publicover's 19,341 foot Kilimanjaro Climb for Life—slated for October 12 to 26, 2012.
Joining eTalk's Ben Mulroney on the climb is 25 year old New Glasgow native Devin Publicover whose first foray into the world of philanthropy is leaving a lasting impression on many. Having lived in Alberta for the past two years, where he's worked hard to save for his impending university studies while indulging his appetite for adventure, Devin returns to his family home in New Glasgow just days before his departure for Tanzania where he will climb Africa's highest peak to benefit Canadian charity WaterCan.
Devin, an aspiring high school English teacher, has chronicled his charitable aspirations and Kilimanjaro training regime through a series of videos, which have rallied his friends, family and broader community in support of his $5,000 personal fundraising goal. Videos may be viewed at: www.facebook.com/DevinsKilimanjaroClimbForLife. Devin has so far raised $3,400 in support of WaterCan's clean water and sanitation projects in eastern Africa, and is hoping that his October 6th BBQ hosted in partnership with Sobeys in New Glasgow will help him reach his goal.
"The Kilimanjaro Climb for Life is a big stepping-stone for me, and will place me firmly onto a path of compassion and understanding of those less fortunate," says Devin of his decision to join the climb. "I am going to make a difference and I will continue to once this adventure is over."
As an avid outdoor enthusiast and adrenaline junkie whose thrill-seeking escapades include mountain climbing, river rafting and skydiving, Devin attributes his ability to accomplish these activities to good health, fueled by access to clean drinking water. Not everyone shares this privilege. Worldwide nearly 800 million continue to lack access to clean drinking water, resulting in poor health and the needless deaths of millions each year.
The public is invited to join Devin's "Kilimanjaro Climb for Life BBQ" hosted in partnership with Sobeys:
Date: Saturday, October 6, 2012
Time: 11am to 4pm
Location: East Side Sobeys, East River Rd, New Glasgow, NS
Devin Publicover and Ben Mulroney join a team of 22 Canadians on this extraordinary journey up Kilimanjaro. Says WaterCan Executive Director, George Yap, "This team—comprising industry leaders, TV personalities and adventurous concerned citizens-will serve as an inspiring example of Canada's global reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking nation."
Through WaterCan's mobile fundraising initiative, people can text H20 to 45678 to donate $10 or donate towards Devin's personal fundraising effort at www.watercan.com/kilimanjaro
