To
celebrate World Water Day (March 22 of each year) WaterCan held
a press conference at the National Capital Commission's Canada
and the World Pavilion in Ottawa to officially release "Clean Water
for All", a short educational video that highlights how WaterCan
is helping to bring clean water and hope to communities in Africa.
Mrs. Margaret Trudeau, WaterCan's Honourary President introduced
and spoke to the press about the video, along with James Knight,
Board Chairman, and Gary H.J. Pluim, Executive Director. A reception
generously sponsored by the Canadian Bottled Water Association
followed the press conference, bringing together new and old friends
of WaterCan.
"I have come to understand that the greatest gift we as Canadians can give
is to help communities acquire a good supply of clean water," said Mrs.
Trudeau. "The benefits that come from clean water are far reaching and
evident. We can make a real difference in the health of many, many of the world's
precious children."
The
National Capital Commission's Canada and the World Pavilion sponsored by
Accenture, is a unique collection of interactive exhibits about
Canadians who have made their mark internationally. For example,
the Pavilion features a permanent exhibit on the water filter
invented by Canadian Dr. David Manz with the assistance of
International Development Research Council. The filters are no being used in
thirty-two different countries. WaterCan would like to thank the staff at the
Canada and the World Pavilion for their help with this event.
