World Water Day – March 22, 2008
Theme: Sanitation
Around the world, 1.1 billion people lack access to clean water. Another 2.6 billion
people lack access to basic sanitation, like toilets or safe latrines.
The result? A devastating cycle of poverty and disease that claims the lives of 5000
children each day, and affects everything from health and education to gender
equality and economic growth.
To raise awareness of this global crisis, the United Nations has declared March 22nd
of each year as World Water Day.
This year, WaterCan invites you to take part in World Water Day and spread the word
about the desperate need for clean water and sanitation in the developing world.
