Melissa McQuaid was an young undergraduate student at Queen’s University when she first heard of WaterCan through our university chapters program. Five years later she’s in Bonn Germany passing on WaterCan’s message to her eager fourth grade class.
Upon her arrival at Bonn International School last year, she was happy to find out that one of the components of the fourth grade curriculum was on water conservation and the increasing scarcity of water. Knowing the importance of fostering values of global citizenship in her young students, Melissa encouraged them to think of ways to “act” upon their newfound knowledge of global water issues.
The idea of designing and selling water-related t-shirts was born.
The initiative raised $900 dollars and even more importantly, helped spread the word. Melissa’s efforts in collaboration with her students highlight what creative thinking and team work can accomplish.
Melissa writes “my students were so pleased to know that they were helping to build a well or fresh water drinking system for people in Africa and I was pleased that my nine and ten year old students were able to achieve something so powerful.” We, at WaterCan, share your pride and whole-heartedly commend you and your students on a job well done!
Your donation is more than just a financial contribution; it is a gift of hope to those who will gain access to clean water and basic sanitation as a result of your effort!
