In developing countries, it’s common for water collectors, usually women and girls, to walk more than 6 km a day to fetch water.
While all poor community members are affected, women are often the hardest hit by the water and sanitation crisis—robbed of their time, health and dignity.
The WaterCan Walk for Water is a walk in solidarity to raise funds and awareness about the plight of billions in the developing world, who do not have access to two very fundamental needs—clean water and a safe and private place to go.
Every March, in the weeks leading up to World Water Day (March 22), students, faith groups, community groups and businesses across the country organize Walks for Water to do their part to end this crisis.

WaterCan is always looking for motivated volunteers to plan new walks…could that be you?
If there are no Walks being organized in your area, consider organizing one yourself. Walks can be any size, from a handful to a few hundred, and do not cost much to organize.
Contact the WaterCan office for a complete WaterCan Walk for Water Planning Guide. We are happy to provide any on-going support you need to help make your event a success.
